Hanna Priemetzhofer uses her pseudonym Pira Tin as an expression of curiosity to engage with spaces in between, to gather the fleeting and fragmentary, to improvise, to revalue rubbish, to be in motion. Mostly, her artistic practice is collecting and interweaving the findings. She often works in a combination of images (photos and scans) and words to create spaces in the form of publications. Apart from printed works, she experiments with the actual use of “waste” as source material for her works. For some years now, she has been moving between different places, increasingly gravitating towards south-eastern Europe.

“Where are you from? From the Danube?”

What if I become part of the flow? What if the land passes by – trees, cities, industrial areas, stretches of land, islands, history? What if I am between the banks, floating on the border?
The publication shows views of the riverbanks, photographed from the Danube’s shipping channel, which come together to form a long, diverse, and yet continuous line, that has no defined beginning, and deliberately gives no indication of geographical or national locations.
After spending 60 days and nights on board the research vessel MS-FUSION, travelling down the Danube from Austria to the Danube Delta in Romania in 2021, we spent the first night back on land, in a guesthouse in Tulcea. The lady of Pensiune Melisa welcomed us with the question “Where are you from? … from the Danube? It is nice, I went with my husband to Vienna – and you come here!”
