Pedro Barateiro (b. 1979) is an artist working across sculpture, film, performance, writing, and drawing, focusing on deconstructing Western binary narratives. He holds an MA from Malm\u00f6 Art Academy, Lund University, and completed the Independent Study Program at Maumaus \u2013 School of Visual Arts in Lisbon.<\/p>\n
Barateiro has held residencies at Air Antwerpen, Pavillon \u2013 Palais de Tokyo, ISCP New York, S\u00edtio das Artes, Spike Island, and Galeria Z\u00e9 dos Bois. His solo exhibitions have been showcased at venues including Kunsthalle M\u00fcnster, CRAC Alsace, Kunsthalle Basel, Kettle’s Yard, Museu Cole\u00e7\u00e3o Berardo, and Spike Island.<\/p>\n
He has participated in group exhibitions at the 13th Sharjah Biennial, 20th SESC – Videobrasil, 29th S\u00e3o Paulo Biennial, 16th Biennale of Sydney, and the 5th Berlin Biennale, as well as in institutions like M HKA, Palais de Tokyo, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Gulbenkian, and MAAT.<\/p>\n
His performances have been presented at the Vilnius Biennial of Performance Art VB23, Centre Pompidou, Teatro Rivoli, and other notable venues. Barateiro has edited books such as “Temporary Collaborations” and “ACTIVITY” with Ricardo Valentim, and authored “How to Make a Mask,” “The Artist as Spectator,” and “Just a Wound.”<\/p>\n
