Part 1 | Sanja Vasic

Project for the AWB includes an activation of poem through an ambiental installation placed in the hotel kitchen. The poem is a record of a specific memory; the whole project is an act of conceptually recreating it inside a physical space; together with the inner psycho-emotional charges that remained trapped in it; their transmission through spatiality; lights & raw orality.

The project inspired by the chosen room – The kitchen – Now only an empty space with the walls covered with white tiles – This detail of the negative representation – Of referring to something that is no longer there I found intriguing – It also reminded me of the constellation of the space where the poem was born: Spring 2019 standing barefoot on the cold tiles of the kitchen floor of flat in Swiss suburbia, surrounded by pieces of broken plates & blood all around, like a scene from a mystery or horror movie…

Sanja Vasić is a transdisciplinary artist. Using mediums such as writing, installations & photography, her work plays with multifaceted vocabularies, intertwines political & personal narratives; exploits embodied experiences; fragments of memories & relics of intense emotions…She often uses poetry as a base to her work, believing that poetry, in all its simplicity & subjectivity, holds the power of being critically engaging; operating on the level of affects & emotions; rather than the rationalization of endlessly complex human experiences.
